Kids
Note: it was hard to decide whether to call this section "kids" or "parents". After all it's more about parenting but when you ARE a parent, parenting tends to get swallowed up by the kids - who will swallow everything that is not called "dinnner". So...
We got ours. Sometimes we wonder why.
Seriously - our children ARE a blessing from God - even though somedays we still wonder about that.
I think I learn more from my kids than they could ever hope to learn about me. I see how I am with them and I understand more of our Heavenly Father's way with us.
One thing is certain: It doesn't matter how many books you read, what seminars you attend or whatever else you think you know about raising kids - no one knows it all.
We all stumble along trying not to screw up things to bad. Is that a negative attitude? Not really, but it IS realistic. Even though we mess up somehow most kids grow up enough to start messing up their own brood.
By then of course we know all there is to raising kids and are right there to tell them how it's done.
We know 'cause we've seen this in our own parents. We KNOW how we were raised and it wasn't at all like what Grandma and Grandpa expect from us!
Of course we are taking a different course from our own parents. We homeschool - they seem to think homeschooling is akin to worshipping Satan. We try to limit sugar and TV and other junk. They never made the link between sugar overload and kids bouncing off the walls. They scold us for being too harsh with dicipline and then can't understand why our children behave so horribly at their house. You get the idea.
The "final word" here is there is no final word. If parenting was a slam dunk we'd all be raising superstars. Yes, we do offer some titles on Parenting but we make no claims that you'll ever really find "the answer". Think of any book on the subject as an idea book and use the information as such.
The rest of these pages are devoted to entertainment - or things to get your kids involved in and away from the boob tube. Most of these things involves stuff you can do WITH your kids. Like the man said "I've never heard anybody on their deathbed say they wished they'd spent more time at the office"
You'll also find "kid focused" stuff on other pages too. We've got "kid's stuff" for cooking and health and crafts among other things. We like to think kids are people too (shhhh! don't TELL them). They have lots of different interests and goals so we suspect they might want to see things on more "grown up" topics too! Don't worry, while some of our topics are geared towards "boring grownup topics" like marketing - everything here is kid-friendly. We avoid topics you wouldn't want any child to see.
Smart Parenting - "Smart Parenting" is an ebook offered by Netrazine.com. We snapped this book up when it became available. Is it THAT good? Well, no, not really. WHAT! Please allow us to explain...
We read the sales page and opened the book with great anticipation only to realize we don't agree with a lot of way they say. You may not agree with it either. If you and I were to discuss the ebook we may find we agree with different principles. So what good IS it?
We recommend "Smart Parenting" as a guideline - not on how you should raise your children - but rather an outline of many of the issues we all face as parents and ONE approach to them. It's up to you whether an approach to a parenting challenge makes sense or not. Use this book to face the parenting issues you face and then determine a path that best suits your child right now.
Keep in mind - things change. Kids go through phases. They overcome challenges or learn to deal with them. Situations morph into something else. As parents we need to be flexible.
